21DOP: Day 9

Day 9:  How important is God’s Word in building our faith foundation?

Every appliance comes with an owner’s manual. The maker of the appliance gives us this resource that is superior to any other, because the maker of the product knows every part, every nuance, and how it’s put together. Therefore, these manuals are the ideal resource to understand how to operate our appliance, troubleshoot problems, and even how to maintain it.

Think of God’s Word in the same way. God, who created us, gave us HIS special “owner’s manual,” the Bible. In His Word, we learn how to live godly lives, how to troubleshoot when problems arise, and how to maintain a strong foundation of faith. Meditate on these verses:

Psalm 119:105: “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light for my path.”

John 17:17: “Sanctify them by the truth, for your word is truth.”

Ephesians 6:17: “Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

Colossians 3:16: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom……”

Hebrews 4:12: “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

These verses emphasize God’s Word as “light” and “truth.” They are our best defense against worldly enemies. To be in God’s Word daily enables our bodies to be a dwelling place for God’s rich truth, which helps us stand firm in our faith foundation.

Which of the above verses clarifies the importance of God’s Word for you?
What would it take for you to begin to make all major life decisions based on God’s Word and not just your logic and intuition?

Prayer: “Dear Lord, help me to realize how important it is to read your Word daily. Help me seek your light, your truth, and your wisdom, in order that my faith holds strong, as I walk with you. It’s in Jesus name I pray, Amen.””
