21 Days of Prayer & Fasting: Day 12

21 Days of Prayer & Fasting

Day 12 - Why did Jesus refer to “sight” in His first public speech?

In Luke 4, we read about Jesus being handed the scroll of the prophet Isaiah.  This incident occurred after He returned from defeating Satan’s tempting tactics and was “in the power of the Spirit.”  Now Isaiah’s book is long, yet Jesus unrolled it to a specific place, because He could think of no better way to announce His mission.  As Jesus began to read Isaiah, it began with, “the Spirit of the Lord is on me.” Jesus made sure that verse was included in the reading!  In verse 18, Jesus reads, “He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind.” When Isaiah first announced this same mission given to him years before, he foreshadowed this exact moment, when the true Messiah would fulfill this prophecy!

So, we observe that seeing was so important to Jesus that it was mentioned by Him in some of His first public words! Having the power to see God’s calling in our lives can only be accomplished by the anointing power of the Holy Spirit.  Jesus wanted everyone to know, at the onset , that the Spirit of the Lord must come first, in order that we can see the next steps in our walk with Jesus. If you have accepted Jesus in your heart, then you have the Holy Spirit inside of you! Jesus wants us to rely on the Holy Spirit, not on ourselves, to use the gifts He has given us.  He can even implant NEW gifts in us!  What gift do you “see” in your life that you can use for Jesus!

Prayer: Lord, give me a fresh anointing of Your Spirit. Give me the power to step into Your call on my life, in whatever season I find myself.  Help me to see how to use my gifts and talents for Your kingdom's growth. (To learn more about your gifts, sign up for LIFT!) Amen.
