21 Days of Prayer & Fasting: Day 11

21 Days of Prayer & Fasting

Day 11 - Are we always able to see what God is doing in our lives?

Today brings us to the amazing story of Elisha and his servant (2 Kings 6:15-17).  The servant was so overwhelmed with the sight of the horsemen and chariots that surrounded the city.  He felt that disaster was just about to overtake them. “Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered.  “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”  And Elisha prayed. “O Lord, open his eyes so he may see.”  Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha!

All too often, we are more like the servant than Elisha…fearful, frozen, and blind to the work of God. We feel surrounded and on the brink of defeat. Yet, Elisha, who is a foreshadowing of Jesus, gave the servant the wonderful gift of a glimpse into the armies of heaven that were ready to take up arms on their behalf.  And adding the miracle of making the enemy blind was the “cherry on top!”  Oh, how sweet that moment must have been for this servant!

Prayer: Dear Lord, open my eyes that I might see your work in the world all around me. Please enable me to see your provision, even though it is outside the realm of my current sight right now. Give me courage to face the uncertainty, and please send your angel armies to protect me. Amen.
